| Lorel works with both sculptural and wheel techniques to create her clay art. Vases and lamps are thrown on the wheel and images are etched in when the clay is leather-hard. Sculptural work begins with the slab or wheel thrown clay which is altered. "Bird" bodies are thrown on the pottery wheel in a tear drop shape. Heads and necks are hand sculpted and attached the following day, and the details are drawn in when the clay is leather-hard. Each piece requires multiple glazes which are hand-painted before Raku firing. |
